Based in Claverton, on the outskirts of the city of Bath, the American Museum is a picturesque Grade I listed Georgian 125 acre estate, set in landscaped grounds and housing a collection of American art and culture.
World renowned for its of collections of American furniture, quilts and folk art, the museum was founded by founded by two antique collectors: Dallas Pratt (1914 – 1994) and his partner and his lifelong partner John Judkyn (1913 – 1963). Attracting over 3 million visitors per year, it remains the only museum devoted to American decorative arts outside the United States.
Wessex Electricals have been instructed for electrical works by the museum, commencing with EICR and remedial works to the historical property.
The team are well versed in dealing with heritage buildings and the complex electrical systems within them, however the greater challenge for this project was a matter of timing.
As a highly popular tourist destination, it is simply not safe, nor practical for electrical works to take place during busy visitor times.
Our team, led by Mark Brennan and supported by Ollie Marsden and Apprentice Woody Hillier, worked flexibly to suit the museum and through strong teamwork and collaboration conducted all works safely, expertly and without any disruption to the museum’s visitors and staff.
With a track record spanning nearly 60 years, we have a demonstrable track record in working with every type of property. With our project expertise and team management, built up over decades, we are proud to be the trusted provider of Electrical Solutions to many of the region’s businesses and heritage sites.
Matt Amos, Estate Manager for the Museum “After taking responsibility for The American Museum & Gardens, I soon found that the Estate suffered badly from previous works and a lack of statutory testing. Having worked with Wessex in on other sites, I knew the standard of work would be high and carried out professionally. The electrical engineers who carried out the work were accommodating due to the sensitivity of our Grade I listed building and offered solutions to any problems that arose. It is comforting to know we have a dedicated contracts manager to oversee any works. I would highly recommend Wessex and look forward to working with them in the future.”
