Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships allow you to combine work and study by mixing on-the-job training with classroom learning. Wessex Group operates a craft apprenticeship scheme, currently employing and training 26 apprentices who are bringing learning and earning together.

As a family run organisation with deep seated roots in the community, Wessex see it as part of our wider responsibility to help to train the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Our apprentices are paid significantly more that the national minimum apprentice rate and, because of our size and scope, receive varied, in-depth education and experience. Our business development strategy requires us to increase our number of skilled workers every year and it is our policy that at least 25% of these employees will be recruited from our own apprenticeship scheme.

The wide range of opportunities for career progression following apprenticeship with Wessex makes our scheme very attractive.

New apprenticeships are usually awarded in May/June, with successful apprentices starting in August/September but we accept applications all year round.

Apprentices will need to balance education, employment and their social lives, so a disciplined approach to learning, both in the classroom an on-site is essential. All applicants will be required to attain (or be predicted to attain) a minimum Grade 4 at GCSE level Math, English and Science. In addition, each candidate will undergo an aptitude test and interview.
