Location: Nynehead near Wellington, Somerset
Description of Work: 5.8 megawatts Photovoltaic solar park
Duration: June-July 2013
Wessex Fire and Security work with a number of industry leading solar farm developers to protect their installations from damage and theft. We protect large scale remote sites through the application of a wide range of robust technologies including CCTV Perimeter beam detection, fence line protection, buried microphonic cabling and dual path communication devices.
We installed 17 No Optex beams around the perimeter of the field to protect intrusion into the area where the solar panels are. The cable leads back to a central location and signals off site using GSM monitoring.
The site consisted of over 20,000 modules made up of 285,290 and 295 watt modular panels, and 220 kilometres of cable. This was installed to tight time restraints of approximately 6 weeks to ensure commissioning and switching on to the National Grid System.
Wessex Electricals supplied and installed AC & DC wiring systems, LV switchgear/inverter frames & a data logging system and carried out the commissioning & testing of systems.
“Wessex delivered on site as expected and always to program. We were very impressed by their work ethic and the quality of the work delivered.”
