Background:
The Green House hotel is a beautiful boutique hotel that lives and breathes sustainability. Situated in the heart of Bournemouth, Dorset, the hotel opened in April 2010 after undergoing a complete refurbishment. We installed full mechanical and electrical services including combined heat & power and solar thermal hot water solutions to this bespoke hotel.
Scope:
We fitted a CHP (combined heat power) unit which works alongside a fully condensing boiler. The CHP unit is a natural gas fired unit, giving 12.5 -15.5kW of heat output and a 5.5kW 3 phase electrical output.
The integral controller offers simple, user friendly operation and is programmed to provide full sequence control of up to 10 multiple units. An integrated modem allows remote performance monitoring and service notification. A separate buffer vessel increases running hours and significantly reduces the number of starts, which helps reduce maintenance costs and extends the life of the CHP Unit.
Five solar thermal evacuated tube modules rest on a purpose built frame in the roof valley feeding a 1000L buffer vessel in the basement plant room.
A Dali Intelligent lighting system enables “scene setting” in the corridors and bedrooms. In the corridors all lamps are reduced to only 10% power until presence is detected. In bedrooms, there are a number of lighting “scenes” which can be easily selected by the Guest using the touch screen controller.
Being able to deliver all the mechanical & electrical services, including the renewable energy systems, under one roof was a major advantage for Spetisbury Construction. This “one-stop shop” solution minimised the time spent coordinating contractors.
