Description of Work: Maintenance of current fire alarm system
Duration: January 2014 – On-going
Dating from the 13th century, this ancient coaching inn can be found in the heart of Salisbury. It was built to provide lodgings for the draughtsmen working on the cathedral, but was later used as a staging post for mail coach services from London. It claims to be the oldest hotel in Britain. Much of the hotel’s original features still stand, from its timber frames to the medieval fireplace inside found during recent excavations. It has 51 rooms of variable size and style and is quite popular with international tourists on the English History trail.
The hotel has been owned by the Maidment family for nearly 100 years, and has only recently changed hands. We have started the upgrade of their current fire alarm systems to a wireless setup, which will be completed in several phases to ensure minimal disruption to the hotel. This new system will give the hotel more flexibility. Due to the layout and setup of the hotel, we had to carry out extensive radio surveys to ensure the most appropriate and cost effective method was used to ensure the best signal was achieved.
“Wessex Group Ltd has recently overhauled the complete fire system at the Best Western Red Lion Hotel Salisbury, apart for being a long and difficult job to complete Wessex Group Ltd also had to work with the restraints of a historic building and a building which was operating at a high occupancy of business and a large number of day visitors.
The whole job was carried out with sympathy to the building efficiency for our business and friendliness towards our visitors residents and staff. I cannot recommend highly enough Wessex Group for the professional way they carried out the job request”
