IAAPS; The Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems, is part of the University of Bath. Originally a small research team, IAAPS is now a world-leading centre of excellence for research, innovation, enterprise and education, supporting the future direction of the automotive industry.
Wessex Fire & Security were instructed to supply, install and commission critical life safety and security systems for the new purpose-built, state of the art research facility.
The latest technology in life safety systems were employed throughout the facility, including Fire alarms and a PAVA system – a Public Address & Voice Alarm System where there is a need to provide clear concise spoken messages either for general day to day messages or in the event of an emergency to safely evacuate occupants.
We installed an Intruder alarm system and an Access Control System, with CCTV to the premises being completed in collaboration with surveillance experts CDS. We are delighted to have also worked with Sceptre again, the specialised Data Cabling professional Network installers to supply and install the IAAPS facilities with the very latest network technology.
The Wessex Fire & Security teams will provide 24-hour support and round the clock maintenance and servicing of the systems.
Professor Gary Hawley, Executive Director of IAAPS, says: “Our world-class, fully integrated research facilities house highly specialised and innovative technology and operate under a wide range of conditions. We will have a large number of staff and visitors on site at any one time. To that end, it is imperative that we have state of the art fire and security systems in place to ensure the safeguarding of our personnel, clients and infrastructure. Wessex were the provider of choice to supply, install and commission these essential systems for IAAPS.”
Lawrence Yeo, Operations Manager at Wessex Fire & Security, says: “We have worked with the University of Bath for many years and have a clear understanding of the infrastructure and expectations for fire and security provision. We have a demonstrable track record in supply, installation and commissioning of critical life safety and security systems for specialist premises so are best placed to deliver and maintain the systems for IAAPS.”
