Trainee Fire Service Engineer

We are seeking a keen and enthusiastic individual to join our Fire & Security Service team as a trainee fire service engineer. Candidates will ideally have some site experience and may have completed initial training at college or worked in a supportive role as an electrician’s mate or similar in the field and wish to direct their career into this prestigious industry gaining full training along the way through our leading and recognised training academies with Tavcom, CSL, FIA, BAFE, and GENT as well as our in house trainers.

We are the service provider of choice to many of the region’s leading businesses, sites and attractions as well as having a substantial private residential portfolio, looking after the homes of customers across six counties. With a strong pipeline of business and continuing award of large scale sites, we are recruiting for the next generation of service engineers to lead the company forward into the future by offering a full training platform for successful candidates to achieve their goals.

Working across the south and southwest offering support to both commercial and domestic customers the successful applicant will learn and experience a full range of service tasks whilst being supervised by our team of highly skilled engineers and supervisors along with completing BTEC courses in the below and a host of other industry product training,

  • Practical fire alarm installation BTEC level 3
  • Fire alarm service, repair and maintenance
  • Introduction to fire safety awareness and risk assessment
  • Gent Basic and Advanced
  • FIA Level 3 and part 6

Duties will include routine servicing, reactive repairs and planned works of fire alarm systems, extinguishers, and associated equipment, as well as assisting team members with general tasks and duties, and learning skills across the whole department including use of IT equipment and networks as well as completing the scheduled training courses through an industry leading provider. Our head office is based in Shaftesbury where the successful candidate will be expected to make routine visits throughout the year to conduct training, attend regular meetings to track progress on career progression, and have regular interaction with their line manager and co-ordination team as well as collect essential parts and materials.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of the service team becoming the next generation of engineer for the south west’s most established fire and security company.  Wessex will provide full training in line with industry standards as well as health and safety best practice to ensure the successful applicant becomes a fully-fledged skilled fire service engineer.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To learn, experience and develop the skills to carry out service and maintenance works across a wide range of fire systems in line with current industry standards and client requirements whilst being supervised by skilled time served engineers and supervisors with a strong focus on obtaining recognised industry qualifications through our training plan.
  • Comply with all H&S legislation, industry standards and all company policies at all times.
  • Work closely with experienced mentors and training providers to gain the necessary skills and experience to become a master in the field.
  • Correctly complete company paperwork to include engineer service reports, certificates, and job details as appropriate using IT equipment and software packages.

Key Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Strong desire to learn and progress in the industry and have a keen interest in new technologies and wiring systems
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office & basic IT skills
  • Good communication, calculation & literacy skills
  • Good time management, ability to work as part of a team or individually
  • Become a real team player
  • Good communication skills with a high level of customer service
  • Minimum grade A-C or modern day equivalent in Maths and English
  • Able to obtain clean DBS

Desirable Competencies:

  • CSCS/ECS Card however training can be provided
  • Knowledge of health & safety and CDM regulations including risk assessment however full training can be given
  • Industry experience or similar in an electrically biased role preferable, however thorough training will be offered through our in-house teams and industry academies to help applicants achieve the full skillset required
  • Competent with IT equipment and software packages to help complete electronic reports on tablets and laptops as required.

Remuneration:

  • Structured pay scheme in line with achievement of qualification units and experience, initial salary of £12.60 per hour whilst training
