Role overview

  • Leading efforts to establish and retain business growth opportunities. Primarily obtaining new clients and fostering business relationships to increase revenue from sales. As a business development manager, you’ll focus on developing and growing business, by fostering and nurturing relationships with customers, specifiers, suppliers and partners. You will work to improve revenue through careful strategic planning and positioning in the appropriate markets, or to enhance the business, position and reputation.

Responsibilities

As a business development manager, you’ll need to:

  • Promoting a culture of growth through sales across the business
  • Identify new business opportunities – including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, products and services
  • Seek out the appropriate contact in an organisation
  • Generate leads and cold call prospective customers
  • Following up on client leads
  • Meet with customers/clients face to face or over the phone
  • Understand the needs of your customers and be able to respond effectively with a plan of how to meet these
  • Think strategically – seeing the bigger picture and setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business
  • Work strategically
  • Have a good understanding of the businesses’ products or services and be able to advise others about them
  • Discuss and agree promotional strategy and activities
  • Seek ways of improving the way the business operates
  • Attend seminars, conferences and events where appropriate
  • Keep abreast of trends and changes in the electronic security market and competitors
  • Play an intrinsic part in the creation and implementation of sales campaigns
  • Create and manage an effective a sales pipeline
  • Negotiate pricing with customers
  • Carry out sales forecasts and analysis and present your findings to senior management.

 

Business Development Executive Skills

To be an effective business development executive, an individual must be:

  • Socially adept
  • Good with numbers
  • Strong industry knowledge, with an emphasis on security systems
  • Excellent IT and Admin skills
  • Good general communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong deal closing credentials.
  • Ability to work independently

  • The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • Skill in prioritising and triaging obligations

  • Excellent time management and organisation

 

Salary for the role is £35k – £45k
