Apprentice Skills Challenge Award

Local boy from Wessex Fire and Security has won the prestigeous Apprentice Skills Challenge Award.

Security Apprentice Richard Atherton of Tisbury (pictured centre), who works for Wessex Fire and Security and studies with Yeovil College, recently entered and won his heat at IFSEC (the annual global security industry event).
Now in its 37th year, IFSEC which took place this year in May at the NEC Birmingham, is the world’s leading global annual security event, uniting over 25,000 security professionals with more than 600 world leading companies.

The Apprentice Skills Challenge, which takes place over four days, provides apprentices with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learnt and compete against their colleagues for top prizes. Richard won his heat for installing a complete security system and connecting it successfully to an alarm receiving centre within 1 ½ hours.
Trevor Jenks, Security and Fire Alarms Systems Specialist and course tutor at the North Dorset Skills Centre in Shaftesbury, Waltham Forest, Chichester and Warwick colleges said; “We are delighted and very encouraged that Wessex Fire and Security continue to support apprentices in such a positive and supportive manner and that one of their apprentices currently studying with us at Yeovil College has won this prestigious award.”

Wessex Fire and Security work very closely with Yeovil College’s satellite centre in North Dorset, who are the only college in the south west that offer fully funded modern apprenticeships for security and emergency systems covering intruder and fire alarms.
