The Wessex group is fully committed to a programme of training and development, so individuals are able to achieve their full potential, as befits our “Investor in People” status.

Traditionally most construction industry companies rely solely on a “coaching culture” for developing skills.  New employees will be teamed up with an old hand, so his skills and knowledge can be passed on. Whilst we continue to embrace this culture, we believe it must be supplemented by a more structural approach.

Through regular individual and group “training needs analysis”, we produce an annual training plan that includes statutory training (for qualification renewal) refresher training, product training and development training.

The Group also operates a craft apprenticeship scheme, currently employing and training 26 young people. In 2008 we designed and implemented our own management development scheme specifically to advance the careers of senior engineers. This scheme has since been adopted by the Electrical Contractors Association for the benefit of the whole industry.
